Be Happy: How to Find the Good in ALL Things

Oh goodness, to say we have been inundated with a smorgasbord of distractions the past couple of years is an understatement, for sure.

As women, we are accustomed to dealing with our fair share of distractions while taking care of our home, parenting, wifing, careers, hormones, etc.

But the curveballs being hurled our way from life’s pitching mound the past couple of years (some of them coming in at a speed of 100 mph, I swear) have taken distractions to a whole new level. And it has overwhelmed us all.

I’m not even gonna pretend to candy-coat the truth of our current reality. I see you. I hear you.

It’s been a freakin’ challenge to work through the “hard” of so many things and not drown in the cesspool of negativity that is flooding our nation.

Perhaps you have become so overwhelmed with the suck and the hard that you have given up hope that life has anything good to offer anymore.

Eyes right here, sister. Lean in close and listen to what I have to say.

As cliche’ as it may sound…

Happiness is a choice.

“But Kacie, you don’t understand. You do not know what I’m dealing with.”

You’re right. I DON’T know what your “hard” is. But I am certain of this…

There is good to be found in every challenging circumstance… IF you’re willing to look for it.

The key is cultivating a habit of positivity.

Here’s the deal…

  • If you want a clean house, you clean it.

  • If you want your family to eat healthy, you provide snacks and meals that are good for them.

  • If you want to stick to a budget, you track every penny and spend within your means.

Developing a positive attitude is no different. You must act in order to achieve that which you desire.

If you desire a perspective that finds the good in ALL things, then you must practice positivity on purpose.

“Sounds like some freaky hocus pocus to me, Kacie. I am upside down in a barrel of suck. How in the world do I find any good in all of this hard?”

First, breathe… Just breathe.

Then, start incorporating some of the following in your day-to-day living.

  • Meditate – Meditation will relax your mind and body. Designate a quiet time during a certain part of every day. Turn off electronics (and the news), quietly relax, and let your mind unwind. When your mind is at peace, it becomes much easier to find the good.

  • Focus on the good things – Your mind will “feel” what you focus on. Make a list of victories in your life, both big and small. The more you can focus on the positive, the more it will be reinforced as your reality.

  • Practice gratitude – Take some time to consider all you have to be thankful for and write them down. Don’t skip over the small things. Consistent gratitude is a significant piece of the positivity puzzle. When you create a habit of being thankful for the small things, you will naturally look for the good in all circumstances.

  • Smile – Smiling will make a difference in your day. In fact, it is a proven fact that smiling can make you happier. It signals your brain, waking up parts of your nervous system responsible for relaxation and positivity. Flash those pearly whites every chance you get.

  • Self care – Of course, you knew this one would make it in the mix, right? I cannot stress this one enough. Do more of what you love… and do it often.

Now, carry on, my friend.

Do good. Be good. And call out the good around you.
