THIS Is How You Check Your “Baggage” At The Door
Life… oh, she can be h-e-a-v-y… HEAVY. I’m talking heavier than a bad burrito in the middle of the night or the amount of anti-inflammatory cream we slather all over our middle-aged joints.
I realize I’m preaching to the choir and my leading statement is no news flash for you. I mean, just look at the past four months. We have all experienced our own kind of “heavy” throughout the turn of events in our country, all while dealing with our everyday “stuff.”
Yes. Life can be heavy. In fact, it can really weigh us down. But the good news is that it will only sink us if we let it.
Believe it or not, this is one of my most favorite things to talk about.
Wanna know why?
Because I have been there, friend.
I have walked where you walk… I have cried where you cry… I have struggled where you struggle.
But you know what?
I have learned how to check that heavy baggage at the door so I can live my life with purpose, on purpose. And what a sweet spot that is.
Oh, what I wouldn’t give for you to experience that.
I remember what my doctor told me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. He said, “Kacie, you have got to figure out what is toxic in your world and get rid of it. Then go live your life.”
I am telling you, that was some of the best advice anyone has ever given me.
You want to experience a real sense of freedom in your life? Do. What. She. Said.
Sister, what is weighing you down? Is it a strained or disruptive relationship? Perhaps a lack of self-control with your spending or eating habits? Maybe you “over-indulge” in what you do for others and neglect your own self-care?
Whatever it is for you, there is a common theme. At the very core of that heavy burden you lug around with you all day, every day is the real culprit of your weightiness. Her name is “expectations.”
You remember her, don’t you? Yeah, she’s a hot topic among women like us, mostly because we know what she’s about and we are tired of playing her game.
She has mastered the role of an arrogant witch who sits on our shoulder, leading with fear down a path of least resistance.
She takes advantage of every opportunity to sway you into making unhealthy decisions that keep you from becoming your best self.
Good grief, can’t you just hear her wicked cackle as she anticipates her victory? (I wish there was a throat punch emoji.)
Sister, I know you already know this, but I’m gonna tell you anyway… she only wins IF you let her.
So, what do you say… are you ready to check that baggage at the door and throw away the key?
The first thing you must do is identify the “heavy” in your life.
What is it that’s weighing you down?
Then, determine where this voice of unreason is coming from?
This will force you to dig deeper into your life as you work to clear out the toxicity and negativity that has nothing good to offer. Examine how you spend your time and who you spend it with. Examine your routines, your behaviors, your habits, your priorities, etc.
Finally, find reasons to celebrate your life, appreciate where you are and what you have, get excited about the good… because I promise you it’s there.
When you make it a habit of living this way, you find that your positive mindset will illuminate the junk in your life that needs to find a new home.
Friend, it’s time to unload… and it’s time to live.
