Avoid The Roller Coaster Effect…and Get Into The Sweet Spot

Here’s the thing… I think there’s something fundamentally wrong with the way we’ve been looking at self-care.

Right now, it’s this thing we can maybe carve time out for. Something that we have to sneak away from our what’s happening today to practice… and then reality swoops in and ruins it every time.

The problem with that method of self-care is that it creates a rollercoaster effect.

One second you’re soaking in a bubble bath and enjoying your night, and the next second your kids are fighting outside the bathroom door.

If self-care is a perfectly clean white shirt, then reality is a toddler with jam on their hands running to see you.

But it doesn’t have to be that way…

I’ve been thinking a lot about something I call the Sweet Spot Effect–which is a perpetual state of satisfaction caused by consistently doing little things that just make you HAPPY.

I now know that it’s possible to integrate all kinds of things that make you happy in your daily life… and that’s a form of self-care.

It all falls under the umbrella of Intentional Living.

See, we don’t have to go on a cruise and totally unplug or take a 45-minute bubble bath to slip into our Sweet Spots… we can do that with intentional acts throughout our day.

I slip into my sweet spot when I feed the chickens and brush the horses…

I find moments of joy when I smell coffee brewing in the house or diffuse my favorite oils…

I even get a hit of Sweet Spot energy when I work out or go on a walk.

So here’s my challenge for you: create the Sweet Spot Effect in your life.

Start finding pockets of self-care in “ordinary” moments to keep your day from looking like a rollercoaster of reality and peace.

Here are some ideas…

  • Pouring a second cup of coffee

  • Trying out a new creamer

  • Playing with a pet

  • Catching up on your favorite TV show

  • Walking around the neighborhood

  • Listening to a podcast

  • Singing along to a catchy song

  • Using amazing-smelling cleaning products

  • Opening the windows to get some fresh air

  • Getting your nails done

  • Hanging out with your kids

  • Buying a new book on Amazon (might I recommend The Sweet Spot?)

The more of these moments you integrate into your life, the more you’ll see the Sweet Spot Effect grow.

Try it out and let me know how it goes.
