Can I Be Grateful AND Still Want More?
To many, it may appear that I “have it all.” And, I admit, I DO have a lot.
I have a thriving business, a beautiful home, amazing kids and grandkids, the man of my dreams…too many, I’m living the perfect life.
I am incredibly grateful for all of those things. But, you know what? They are just objects. You know what else? I want more.
Let me ask you a question. Do you think I am selfish for wanting more? Be honest.
I have been a part of several conversations lately regarding this very topic. And, I recently had someone say to me, “I’m just surprised that you want… more.”
Honestly, I’m glad she said it. I mean, she was thinking it, right? Transparency is a good thing in relationships.
I was not offended by her comment. On the surface, I knew exactly where she was coming from. I already have so much. Isn’t it selfish for me to still want more?
Given this health crisis, economic downfall, and natural disasters that are currently turning our world upside-down, shouldn’t we just count our blessings and be grateful for what we have?
When we talk about “wanting more,” it is typically assumed that we want more things… bigger house, new car, more money in the bank, opportunities for our kids, etc.
But please hear me out. While desiring these things is not wrong, I want you to understand that there is so much more for us to desire from life than mere stuff.
When I look at all I have, I find myself wanting MORE of something different…
I want to experience more love and peace
I want to do more of what lights up my soul
I want to show up with more grace and joy for others
So YES, it is totally OK to be grateful… AND still want more.
As women, we convince ourselves that we must settle for where we are and for what we have accomplished. And, wanting more is selfish and excessive.
This is simply not the case.
Do you want to know what’s incredible? Having the desire to GROW.
It repels mediocrity and motivates us to show up for others in a bigger and better way.
What type of motivator will we be for others if we decide that we are D.O.N.E… DONE?
So, to answer the question, “Can we be grateful and still want more?”…yes. We not only can strive for more…we should strive for more.
Whatever your “more” is, don’t stop dreaming about it just because you already “have it all.”
Think about it. What’s next for YOU? What do YOU want MORE of? And, chase after it, friend.
