How NOT to Build Your Network Marketing Business

A funny thing happened the other day. An Instagram influencer approached me. Well, that part isn’t exactly “funny”, but it is pretty awesome, eh?

Well, not as awesome as her request.

Get this…

She wanted me to pour this mid-forties mom bod into one of her swimsuits and pose as some eye candy for her swimwear line on her IG feed.

Bless her heart.

You can only imagine how much I appreciated her vote of confidence. I was totally flattered by her gesture… but come on now.

First of all, I knew right away I wasn’t the best fit for what she was needing. (*pun definitely intended)

I also knew they wouldn’t catch me dead, posing in my swimsuit on Instagram. End of story.

This opportunity that I graciously rejected came with a side of ah-ha.

I mean, it literally hit me like a freakin’ hot flash in the middle of the night.

When building your network marketing business, you should only build your team with people who are about what you are about and are headed where you are headed.

Sometimes in Network Marketing there is a tendency to assume that everyone is the perfect fit. This is especially true in the beginning.

The problem with this is that you will probably (but not always) end up with personalities, agendas, priorities, etc. that will ultimately pollute your tribe or weigh it down.

But here’s the good news.

You never have to act out of desperation and include anyone and everyone who wants to be a part. You have the liberty and flexibility to be a little choosy.

This is not only a good thing, but it is the right thing.

You can graciously deny people a piece of the pie when you are certain they aren’t the right flavor… heavy on the grace. It’s not that they wouldn’t be outstanding at network marketing. They just aren’t a suitable fit for you.

Acting with such bold confidence actually benefits both parties.

And, as you grow and develop into a better leader, mentor, entrepreneur, you’ll find that the type of business builders you look for will change.

I am looking for a very different type of leader now than I was looking for years ago. That is a positive thing. It shows growth and maturity in me as a leader.

This level of awareness has helped me intentionally select who I want to be a part of my working community.

Sister, there are only so many hours in the day. Use your time wisely on the people you know will show up in the space you’re playing in.

Being selective saves both you and them a lot of time, energy, and frustration.

Just because someone isn’t a suitable fit for you and your team doesn’t mean they wouldn’t soar with another flock.

Unlike a traditional nine-to-five J.O.B., you get to choose who you will work with in this industry. Don’t waste that sweet perk on anyone and everyone.

Your team reflects who you are and what you are about.

Choose wisely… just because you can.
