Your Circle of Influence: Why It’s So Important

I want you to think about something for a hot minute… or five.

Who are the top five people you hang out with the most… both figuratively and literally? And the more important question to consider is do they truly represent who you aspire to be?

Because here’s the deal. Those people you just named (whether or not you actually know them) are what we call your “circle of influence”. And ultimately, YOU are the by-product of what they represent.

Whether it’s face-to-face interaction, conversations on a social media platform, characters in a Netflix series, or a host on a podcast you listen to frequently, you are being influenced by each one of them.

So many times I see women fall short of their ambitions simply because of who they allow in their circle of influence.

Be aware of who you hang out with, who you watch, who you read, who you follow, who you listen to because they influence the person you will become.

It is so important to surround yourself with supportive people and to have positive mentors in your life – people who will hold you accountable and to a higher standard.

Read about inspiring people, listen to encouraging speakers, watch motivating content on television, and for crying out loud, follow authentic, positive people on social media.

Now let’s be real.

There will be people along the way who will hold you back from achieving what you want to achieve and becoming who you want to become.

You must decide to either accept that… or decide to move on.

It may not be a realistic possibility for you to never be around them, BUT you can definitely choose not to be influenced by their thoughts, words, and actions.

The bottom line is this…

Those with whom we surround ourselves will influence us one way or another – they will either raise our standards or lower them.

They will help us become the very best version of ourselves… or they will prohibit it. That is YOUR choice, sister. Not theirs.

None of us becomes great on our own. It’s our circle of influence that helps us become who we were meant to be.

We need people in our lives who raise our standards, hold us accountable, remind us of our purpose and challenge us to be our best selves.

Are the people within your circle of influence helping you move toward greatness, whatever that is for you? Or are they a roadblock to progress?

Spend some intentional time evaluating who has influential access to what you achieve and who you become. And then do what needs to be done.
